EDITORIAL POLICY

Editorial Policy

What we publish, how we make decisions, and what readers can expect from us.

Beyond the Trail is an editorial and community project about better riding in Asia - from the arena to the open country. We publish practical guidance, field notes and perspectives designed to help riders think more clearly about horse welfare, safety, rider fit, local context, gear, confidence and responsible travel.

Our editorial promise

Every piece of Beyond the Trail content should help answer at least one question: Is the horse okay? Is the experience and the system around it okay? Am I ready for this ride?

Editorial independence

Coverage, inclusion and recommendations cannot be purchased. We do not sell favourable coverage, rankings or recommendations. Our editorial work is not paid for by the subjects we cover.

How we handle relationships

If an article involves a hosted experience, affiliate relationship, contributor affiliation, product relationship or other relevant connection that could affect how a reader understands the piece, we will disclose it clearly. A relationship does not guarantee coverage; editorial judgment remains with Beyond the Trail.

Affiliate and product links

If we use affiliate links or receive a commission on a product, we will label that relationship clearly. Commercial arrangements do not determine our welfare or editorial assessment. We will only include products that are narrowly relevant to the topic and useful to the reader.

Contributors and expertise

We welcome field perspectives from riders, grooms, guides, clinicians, welfare professionals and others with relevant experience. Contributors must disclose relevant affiliations. We retain editorial control, may edit for clarity and accuracy, and do not accept promotional claims as a condition of publication.

Corrections

We want readers to tell us when something is wrong, unclear or out of date. If we identify a meaningful factual error, we will correct it promptly and, where appropriate, note the correction. Send correction requests to with the article title, relevant detail and supporting source where possible.

Images, communities and respect

We aim to use imagery and language that respect horses, riders, local staff and communities. We do not treat people, villages, horses or cultural places as scenery. We seek relevant permissions, credit creators where appropriate and avoid content that encourages unsafe riding, intrusive photography or disrespectful tourism.

Reader dialogue

Where discussion is invited, it may take place through a moderated social or community channel. We may remove content that is abusive, defamatory, unsafe, promotional, discriminatory or identifies people or businesses inappropriately.
